Now that I'm back, and slowly getting over my jet lag, I've been pondering over our three weeks abroad in some of the most beautiful and fascinating cities in the world. I thought to myself "what makes a trip special?". Was it the sights? The food? The first that came to mind were the memories that were created - including the food, and the sights, and other quirky things that happened like the fact that it rained a few times and we had to buy umbrellas from street hawkers, getting stranded without any taxi/bus or subway system to get back to our hotel, walking up 424 steps, etc. Stuff I'll look back on and smile at now that they're history. But the next big reason that stuck out were the people we met. To me, what makes a trip stand out are the people you get to talk to, meet, interact with, and get to know the city and culture through.
On our trip, we were blessed to meet such terrific, friendly and warm people. People who really exemplified what it's like to be Parisian, Italian, British, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed the friendly smiles and helpfulness that everyone shared with us. Everyone from our front desk staff in Paris, Tina and Mo at the Hotel Motte Piquet, Matt, our tour guide to the Madonna del Ghisallo chapel, or to the little old man in Verona who went out of his way to give us directions in Italian mixed in with a little bit of broken english! He was a delight to speak with, and eventually, through my little understanding of the Italian language, we were able to get to where we were headed, because of him! There were so many instances of kindness and friendliness that'll always have me wanting to go back for another visit.
Through their openness and hospitality, we are left with such great memories! Although we met far more people than I have pictured or even mentioned here, I just wanted to share some of the faces we saw and had the pleasure of being around.
